When Pathama Parikanont was 5 years old, her kitchen was the whole garden of her parent’s house in Bangkok. Secret recipes consisted of dirt and sand, broken twigs, flowers, and bright green leaves plucked from low hanging branches. Later, her Dad taught her to wield the mortar and pestle, using only most fragrant cilantro, lemon grass, chilies and garlic. His praise of her efforts thrilled her and cooking became her love.
Now, the dreams of that budding culinary artist are a reality, and Chef Pathama brings her clientele the real Thai deal in a glowing cozy restaurant on an unassuming corner of the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco. Pathama opened Thep Phanom in 1986, and it was immediate success. The heart of this restaurant lies in strong family ties, and delight in presenting only the freshest and finest ingredients in creations prepared for happy and grateful guests.
